I do the same.

Writing Catch of the Day begins with the insertion of the kicker, a tentative title, and no subtitle. Subtitles always come in last. It’s my rule of thumb once everything has come together to convince me that everything has come together.

I do the same. The kicker is the subject. The title is the path. The subtitle comes last because it explains what the essay is about and I can’t know that until I’m done.
