Ironically, I’ve written quite critically about all the doom porn. Umair Haque. Jessica Wildfire. Jared Yates Sexton. It’s exhausting and seems like a cottage industry of its own.

But I write about what I see and feel, and lately, it’s been pretty awful. I try to break it up with pieces about baseball, culture, religion, and entertainment. But when you’re in a crisis, you write about the crisis.

I have never claimed that it’s all over with or promoted the idea that we’re done for. But I do think voters are still largely apathetic about how dire our straits really are. It’s not just doom and gloom for effect, or fear mongering. People should be actively terrified in my opinion.
