One of the things I find a bit amusing are the reactions from people in their 70s who not only assume I will live that long, but that I will find this line of questioning ridiculous. One thing I didn’t include in this piece was the fact that my father died suddenly this past Oct at the age of 80, after not surviving what was supposed to be a routine surgery. He was otherwise healthy and still working. There was no reason to believe he wouldn’t continue for many years to come.

No one knows how long they have. That’s the point. I might have twenty years, or it could be thirty. It could also be three. It’s rather ludicrous to project your life experience onto anyone else. What are the next few decades going to produce in terms of economic, environmental, political, and global upheaval? Far more than anything anyone alive has ever seen. Our next several decades aren’t going to look anything like the previous ones.

A cranky romantic searching for hope and humor. I tell stories. Most of them are true. I’m not at all interested in your outrage, but I do feel your pain.
