This isn’t the 19th century. Who takes over the nukes? The Military? What about all the guns. It would take about a month to look like Somalia. Just a few thousand warlords and a small, ineffectual central government. It would be chaos. Complete economic and social collapse.

That doesn’t sound okay to me. Might solve the ecological problem. Just kill off 200 million or so.
